Standing on the Promises

I have a serious problem with doubt. It’s deep rooted, it’s hard to shake, and the enemy uses it to take me further and further away from our Father.

My natural tendency to doubt God’s love, grace, faithfulness, and, at times, existence, is escalated every single time Satan plants a thought in my head.

“How could He love you? You’re filthy. You’re so sinful. There’s no forgiving you, and there’s certainly no loving you.”

“There’s no way God cares about this. Don’t even bother praying about it. He’s not going to listen. You’re being selfish. You are selfish. No wonder God doesn’t listen to you. No wonder He doesn’t love you.”

“Sure, God may be in control of everything, but really, how is He showing you faithfulness? He’s forgotten about you. Forget about Him. You can handle it on your own. You don’t need Him.”

Satan sees my biggest struggle and uses it to draw me away from God and towards the world.

However, for every lie Satan shouts at me, God whispers a much louder promise–and His promises are always truth.

I am loved (Romans 8:38-39). I am forgiven (Psalm 103:12). He is faithful to me (2nd Thessalonians 3:3).

He has kept every promise He has ever made. He promised Abraham and Sarah a child, and He gave them Isaac. He promised to never flood the earth again, and He hasn’t. Each promise He has made to us, He will fulfill. He is faithful. He is good.

Each promise He makes is rooted in His truth, and we can be assured that we will see these promises come to fruition in His time. Our God is active and just. He does what He says He will.

We can stand on His promises. We can rest in His word. We can trust our King. His still, small voice is louder and more powerful than the enemy will ever be. Counteract the enemy’s lies with our God’s truth, and believe His promises. He will work for your good and for His glory, He will give you the desires of your heart, and He will keep every single promise.

Held by His love and grace,
